Summer Missions Update
Thank you for your generous giving to the Love Offering for Jesus. Because of your faithful support, West Acres has been able to send 52 people on short-term mission trips this summer!
Be sure to mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 29, at 6:30 PM to hear testimonies from our mission teams and celebrate what God has done through these trips. We are also excited to announce that we will be having a special breakfast for our Student and College Ministry during the Sunday School hour on Sunday, July 26 in which an International Mission Board (IMB) missionary will be sharing about long-term mission opportunities for high school graduates and college age individuals.
Fall Kickoff
As summer winds down and a new school year begins, it's almost time for our annual Sunday School promotion! On Sunday, July 26, during the final 15 minutes of Sunday School, children and students will visit their new classrooms, meet their teachers, and get a preview of where they'll be this year. Then, beginning Sunday, August 2, all children and students should go directly to their new Sunday School classes when they arrive. If you have any questions about your child's class placement, please contact our Children's Pastor, Peter Johnston, or our Student Pastor, Keaton Neff. Also, we're excited to kick off our fall Wednesday night ministries on Wednesday, August 5, at 6:30 PM. TeamKID for preschool through 5th grade, WAY Gathering for students in grades 6–12, and Choir will all resume that evening. We look forward to seeing everyone back!
Ladies Retreat
Ladies of West Acres, please consider attending a refreshing weekend of Bible study, heartfelt worship, and meaningful fellowship! The Fall Ladies Retreat will be held Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20 at Camp Dogwood on beautiful Lake Norman. Register today online or through the church app. We look forward to spending this special weekend growing together in faith and friendship!
Grief Share
Grief Share is a ministry of friendly, caring, and accepting people who utilize video seminars and voluntary group discussion to provide compassionate help and support to people who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Grief Share will meet on Mondays beginning August 3 to November 2 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the Music Suite. Please sign up on our website or the app. If you would like more information, please call the church office.
JOY FM
Join JOY FM for Chill Out Friday in the West Acres parking lot on Friday, July 17, from 12:00–1:00 PM!
Enjoy a free shaved ice snoball, courtesy of Pelican's Snoballs, while supplies last. It's a fun opportunity to connect with others in our community, enjoy a cool treat, and invite friends and neighbors to experience West Acres. We hope to see you there!
Discover West Acres
Every week, we’re grateful to see new faces here at West Acres, and we thank God for the way He continues to grow our church family. If you’re new, or you’ve been attending for a while and are ready to take the next step, we’d love to invite you to Discover West Acres. Discover West Acres is a three-week class where you’ll learn about our mission, our beliefs, and what it means to be a church member. It’s also a great opportunity for us to get to know you and help you get connected in the life of the church. Our next class begins Sunday, August 2, at 8:45 AM. Be sure to register today so we can prepare everything for you this week. You can sign up online or stop by the Next Steps desk after the service. We’d love for you to join us at Discover West Acres!
West Acres Missions
Over the next few weeks, we will have 3 mission teams traveling to various places in the world. They will be sharing the Gospel and helping with the physical needs of many. We have groups traveling to Guatemala, Provo, Utah and Franklin, North Carolina. A total of 52 youth and adults are following the call to “go into all the world”. These trips would not be possible without the support provided by your generous gifts to the LOFJ fund. Thanks for your faithfulness. Please be praying for these 3 teams.
Giving to Missions
Thank you for your continued giving to missions! As Southern Baptists, West Acres is proudly committed to giving to the Cooperative Program which helps support Southern Baptist Missionaries around the world. West Acres was recently recognized as one of the top giving churches to the Cooperative Program. We are also blessed to have the Love Offering For Jesus (LOFJ) which helps us go above and beyond in supporting missions. Because of LOFJ, West Acres Members can have up to $1000 paid towards the cost of short-term mission trips. This summer, we have teams going to North Carolina, Utah, and Guatemala. Saturday Sacks
Each week, West Acres puts our core value of missions into action through our Saturday Sacks Ministry. Through this ministry, we provide a bag of food each week to children in our community who need a little extra help. We are continuing this program throughout the summer and are currently collecting food donations. Pick up a Saturday Sacks flyer in the breezeway or at the Children’s Check-In area for a list of needed items, and place your donations in the collection bin located in the breezeway near the Kids Check-In area. If you are interested in serving with this ministry during the upcoming school year by helping pack and deliver food, please contact the church office for more information.
Summer Wednesdays
Be sure to join us on Wednesday Nights at 6:30pm throughout the summer! Pastor Malone is currently preaching through the book of Genesis, our children enjoy Wacky Wednesdays where they are learning about the armor of God this summer, and our students continue to gather as well. There is something for everyone so come and be refreshed midweek through the summer months.
Parking Information
You may have noticed our parking lots are getting fuller and that’s a great problem to have! It means God is sending new people to our church. To help us continue being a welcoming church, we kindly ask regular attenders to consider parking across the street on Sunday mornings. This simple act makes a big difference by freeing up closer spots for senior adults, families with young children, and first-time visitors. Thank you for helping us be a welcoming church!
Parking Ministry Volunteers
We’re looking for friendly, dependable volunteers to serve in our Parking Ministry, one of the most important ways we show hospitality as a church. This team is often the first impression guests receive, greeting them warmly, directing traffic, and even offering golf cart rides to help people get from their cars to the building. It’s a simple but meaningful way to serve and help everyone feel welcomed from the moment they arrive. Volunteers serve on a rotating basis (about every 6–8 weeks) and must be church members. Tuesday Night Prayer
Prayer is one of the most important ministries of the church, sadly it is often the most neglected. With that said, if you are available, come and join us on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM as we gather together to pray for our church, our community, and our world. Our men meet in the Sanctuary while our ladies meet in the Bride’s Room (W103). We are very excited to see you as we enter into the throne room of our Lord with prayers, petitions, and praises! Service Opportunities
Are you looking for a way to serve in the church? Our Hospitality Ministry is a wonderful place to start! We are seeking folks to serve as door greeters and on our parking team on Sunday mornings. In case you missed it, we launched the West Acres Church App a few months ago! If you haven’t already downloaded it, you can find it by searching “West Acres Baptist Church” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. One great feature for church members is access to our member picture directory. To upload your photo: (1) Tap the image in the top left corner of the screen, (2) Tap the pencil icon, then Edit Profile Photo, (3) and then choose a photo from your camera roll or take a new one. A few tips: the app crops a bit off the top and bottom of your photo, so leave a little space above your head. Square or horizontal photos tend to work better than vertical ones. If you’d prefer for the church office to upload your photo, just email a picture of yourself to [email protected]. Uploading your photo helps everyone put names with faces and get to know one another better!
